Ahhh, organization!

When we moved in, we decided to move the best TV we owned (biggest) to our bedroom.  At the time, we had an unfinished basement and were planning to make a nice family room downstairs.   

We put the TV on the cabinet that we had built for it in Minot, but with our very high bed, it was too low to the ground, so we brought this little cabinet up and stacked it on top of the other one, then put the TV on that.  It still was just a bit low, but we could at least watch TV from bed without sitting bolt upright.  The plan was to build a cabinet to replace the two stacked cabinets.  In my mind, that was way down on the priority list.  Then Christmas came and Bryce decided that we needed to get the new big TV for the partially finished family room.  That meant that the bottom cabinet went to the family room for the new TV to sit on.

Of course that left the bedroom TV on the small cabinet and way too low to watch from the bed. 

Now, the new cabinet became a priority.  I went to Michaels and bought some baskets to use as drawers in the new cabinet.  We designed the cabinet to be the right height and size for the TV and to make some new storage space for our room.

We worried about being able to buy and carry home a large piece of oak plywood, but discovered that Home Depot would cut it for us.  That made it possible to stick the pieces into the back of Gus and have them hang out the back window.

This is what we finished the first Saturday that we worked on it.

Then two Saturdays ago, we had a great project day with Lisa, Cody and kids.  Anna took a nap and Lee helped us in the garage, plugging his ears when things got too noisy.

Meanwhile, Lisa built a toy airplane that she designed herself.

Lee even got to put a few screws into pilot holes to help with the cabinet.

And everyone who helps, gets to sign it.

I spent this week staining and sanding and staining some more.  I put three coats of Watkins oil stain on the cabinet in three colors.  Then it has been drying for several days.

Today I filled the baskets and organized the closet.  And, we can enjoy TV from the bed again!  Ahh, so wonderful.  I've been thanking Bryce all day today.  He even helped me add one more shelf to the closet this morning to replace the cardboard box I've been using.
