Panama Canal Cruise Post 2: Travel and two days at sea
Saturday, November 3, 2012 we left Logan in Dad’s van about 7:00 in the morning, had an uneventful flight to San Diego and boarded the m.s. Westerdam at about 2:00 in the afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of our stateroom and delighted at the quality of food when dinner time came. If this is what we can expect for the next two weeks, bring it on!

<![endif]>November 3 and 4, 2012, At Sea. Each evening we get a little newsletter with a listing of activities on the ship for the next day. Our cruise director, Jason, has said several times “This is your cruise vacation.” That means pick and choose what you would like to do, or do nothing at all. So far we’ve really enjoyed our days at sea. We’ve taken walks on the deck, read books, looked at the ocean and ate wonderful food. This morning I took a yoga class and it was wonderful. I plan to do that on all of our sea days. We have been delighted with the food on this cruise. It is outstanding from beginning to end. In fact, I can’t wait to see what surprises they have for tonight. Last night was a “formal” night and we dressed up for dinner. I brought my really fancy dress from Sara’s wedding and Bryce was in a suit. Dad and Diane were equally snazzy. About noon today the ship stopped in the harbor at Cabo San Lucas Mexico to let off a passenger with a medical condition. They sent a “tender” (small boat) off and we were stopped about an hour. Yesterday we saw gray whales very near the ship as we ate breakfast and then later a big pod of porpoises frolicking just outside our window. They were so much fun to watch as they used the wake of the ship for a diving board. <![if !vml]>
