Opera Prep: Week 4

We had our first dress rehearsal today.  On the way down to the rehearsal, Bryce suddenly had an "aha!" moment.  He asked me, "Who was the Russian villain in Rocky and Bullwinkle?"  Well, it was Boris Badunov.  Our opera is named after the famous real person Boris Godunov.  Get it?  Bad enough, Good enough?  (Ha!)

This morning we took beard pictures, not knowing what would happen with the beard today.  Bryce even brought his razor along thinking they might want it off.  He really wants to shave it off, it's getting a bit annoying.  But when we got there, they told him they would use it.

Here's Bryce's best guard face, and the beard at week 4.

This is his pious Patriarch face.
Now how about some costumes?  Can you recognize the guy with his arm around Sara?  Eric says that's the most facial hair he'll ever have.

I'm supposed to have a hat, but there was a mix up today, and my hat was MIA.  Hopefully I'll have it later.  This is Bryce's guard costume.  They told him that they will probably shorten up his wig.  They think the hair is too long for a guard.  When he was onstage, his hat was tipped back on his head and it looked like he was wearing a fur lined cap.

Great boots, huh?  The black Cossack boot is of course the guard.  The rest of us are peasants.

Now here's the one you've been waiting to see - the Patriarch all duded up.  Isn't he impressive?

Wow! Those are quite the costumes! I love Eric's beard. But I don't think he should grow a real one.

Oh, I've just got to tell you this... I just asked the kids who the guy was (the Patriarch). They studied the photo for a while, and Lee finally decided it was "King Noah. Yeah, because he has that crown, and a big beard. And a Plus sign. But it looks like an 'X' if you turn your head like this." He still has no clue it is Grandpa.
