Kids and Babies

Bryan and Benjamin have been staying with us for a couple of days while their parents are involved with a funeral.  They happened to arrive just at the right time to go to Baby Animal Days at the Historical Farm.  The boys were excited all morning as it poured rain outside.  We had scheduled to leave about 12:30, hoping that the rain would stop.  Sara was planning to come along, but as we were putting our shoes on and going out the door, she sent me a message asking if we could delay.  What do you think?  Do these faces look like we can delay?
We all met at Sara's house, took our shoes off for a few minutes and snapped a grandchild photo or two.  But Sara was still not there.

Grandma was doing silly things to get kids to laugh.

You have to take lots of pictures before you get one where everyone is looking at the camera.

We finally decided to head out to the farm, leaving poor Lucy to wait for her mom.  After buying our tickets, we got to hold a baby duck.

The weather was cool, but the rain had stopped.  This man just sheared his goat.  There was a big pile of wool on the ground.  The goat was very soft.

Next we waited in line (lots of kids there) to see the bunnies and goats.
They were fun to touch.  In case you're counting, we have five kids with us.  They're all in this picture.

Years ago when we raised rabbits, Lisa was good at hypnotizing them.  She tried it with this one, but there were too many hands wanting to touch.
We saw a donkey, he had long soft ears.

And there were lots of baby goats.

We even got to go inside the pen with this calf.

Just then, the clouds rolled in, thunder boomed, and the sky opened up.  Grandma had come prepared with made to size ponchos.  On the drive out, Anna called them "Nachos" because she didn't know the word Poncho, and so we had fun wearing our Nachos.  Lisa had just a jacket on, and she got pretty wet.

We tried to find an indoor thing to do, but the only one required a long wait in line.

While you wait though, you can catch raindrops on your tongue.  It was raining hard.
Finally we got inside and waited in line to hold another duck and some turtles.  Some of the turtles were very small, fitting inside the palm of these kids' hands.  Sorry I didn't get pictures of them, I had a turtle in my hand all the time.  They were a favorite though.

The main attraction in this room was the bear cubs.

No, not those bear cubs, real ones!

And of course the rain stopped as soon as we came back out.  We were tired by then, and walked back toward the cars, but the horses and wagon pulled up just at the right time.  Everyone climbed aboard for a ride around the farm.
We drove past a baby horse and saw lots of grown up horses and cows plus waved at the people riding the train.

Again, Grandma came prepared and the last stop was a tailgate party of juice boxes and Oreos.  Since Grandpa won a year's supply of Oreos, that's not hard to come by.

What a fun day with cousins!

We had a great time and after I got out of my wet clothes I warmed up in no time. :)
